Consider Membership

S-STEP is an active, growing SIG with broad international representation. Our membership includes K-12 teachers, professors in colleges and departments of teacher education as well as other university units with a stake in the education of teachers, and graduate students.

We are always very active at the AERA Annual Meetings. The SIG-sponsored social events and annual business meeting give members opportunities to meet one another and discuss issues of self-study design, publishing, ethics and best practice. In 1996,1998, 2000, 2002, 2004 and 2006 the SIG held a highly successful conference in Herstmonceux Castle, England. The next Castle Conference will be in 2008.

Membership in S-STEP is important if we want to continue to have space and time to connect at AERA. Session allotments at AERA are based on membership. We conduct our SIG through established bylaws.

It's also important to join S-STEP to continue the development of a community of scholars who are interested in exploring the ways in which understanding ourselves and our own practices can improve our preparation of future teachers, teachers who will contribute to shaping the evolution of the society into which we are moving. We constantly ask our community about their ideas and concerns. An example of this, is a survey conducted at our AERA 2001 business meeting.

Remember, that now you must join the S-STEP SIG at the same time that you renew or begin your AERA membership. Be sure to check off S-STEP on the long list of SIGs form that comes enclosed with AERA membership materials. (Do not send your SIG membership dues to the SIG itself).

So please, if you have forgotten to renew, please do so through the form you receive from AERA. If you are not an AERA member, please contact Jim Muchmore (james.muchmore@wmich.edu) for membership information or consider joining AERA.
